08.08.14 - Picturesque Dubrovnik

A Day in Dubrovnik, Croatia
We woke up to the beautiful town of Dubrovnik. Last night was pretty rough but this morning I'm feeling much better, just dehydrated. Larry was up and at 'em bright and early and had done his walk, swim and had breakfast before I opened my eyes. He brought back a light breakfast for me which actually tasted good and stayed down.

The beautiful Dubrovnik welcoming us!

We got dressed and made our way into town. Larry figured out how to get us to our destination in old Dubrovnik. Very old buildings with lots of long tunnels, and shops with lots of little souvenirs to buy. Although it was to have been protected from war, old Dubrovnik unfortunately was severely damaged during the 7 months it was besieged by the Yugoslav People's Army after the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991. The old town has been restored to its original state.

Over here!!
 More alleys here!
The cobblestone streets and greenery make the alleys so picturesque!

So many shops!
Colorful fabrics hanging out to dry!

Alleys open up to quaint little plazas. More laundry hanging!
I spy a cat at the top of these cool stairs. They are everywhere!

The Croatian Kuna is the currency used here in Dubrovnik. US dollars and Euros are not accepted. I could have easily parted with lots of money on a couple things, a beautiful hand crocheted with ribbon embroidery table cloth (but no place to put it) and lots of drinking water. It was so hot and I was still so very dehydrated that even the ocean could not have quenched my thirst. But this old well did a pretty good job of cooling us down.

The town well with ice cold water!
A farmer's market with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables!
Serbian Orthodox church - the first of many churches we would visit.
The checkered floors were a cool contrast to the beautiful gold!
Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola - they are all so huge!
Beautiful views of the outer fortress and walls.

I hope to be able to return to this stunning little town on the Adriatic Sea again sometime in the future.

This was the most beautiful port on our trip.

A Day At Sea

Today was an at sea day. We entertained ourselves by going to a photography class 101 and continued our exploring. After lunch we went to the pool only to be met by hundreds of our shipmates. Not a lounge chair was to be had so we sat like vultures waiting for someone to leave so we could pounce! We hopped in the Jacuzzi and waited patiently and were finally rewarded with 2 loungers side by side. After a bit of jacuzzing and reading we deemed it too hot and crowded and went back to our stateroom. We finished up reading out on our balcony and enjoyed the beautiful expanse of our navy blue ocean. Oliver would love the color!

Later, the newest X-Men movie was showing on the ship’s massive topside screen so we grabbed some cushioned loungers and sat back to enjoy our movie and popcorn under the stars!

Watching the movie under the stars selfie. Selfies are the worst!

After dinner we went to the Vista Lounge for some Princess Cruise Line entertainment. We stayed for a few musical sets and snuck out to try out something else. We walked by a karaoke studio and decided to go check it out (as in watching not participating). There were some pretty good singers but an 11 year old girl from Pennsylvania stole the show with her performance of Rolling in the Deep by Adele. Our last program of the night was a comedian which was very enjoyable.

Goodnight....until tomorrow

Before bedtime, we got ourselves ready for our tour of Athens, Greece tomorrow. Ready Set Go!
