08.06.14 - Ciao Venice and Buongiorno Principessa

Venice, Italy

4:00 am found both Larry and I wide awake. After trying for a couple hours to force ourselves back to sleep we decided to take a breakfast picnic out on a pier on the Grande Canal. What a breathtaking morning as we exchanged greetings with the crews of the supply boats heading in with their wares. A hearty bonjourno from Larry got many a smile and even a chuckle or two from the crew men. We enjoyed the morning immensely as we observed the waking city.

We cleaned up and checked out of our room. Laden with backpacks, we trudged to the people mover (public transportation to the docks) by the bus station. Not too far of a walk thank goodness!

We looked like Ninja Turtles

Our cruise ship is magnificent; one of the biggest and newest in the Princess fleet. We were a bit early but got checked in and waited our turn to board. They are quite efficient and before long it was our turn. We were so excited when we got to our stateroom. We have a room with a view! From our balcony view we can see the tip tops of the Academia and the Santa Maria della Salute in town. Carrying our backpacks turned out to be in our favor because we had all our belongings unpacked and stowed away before anybody else got their luggage.

Last night's sneak peak at the PRINCIPESSA!

We went to dinner and enjoyed a delightful meal of spring rolls, fruit, mushroom soup, and sea bass. We met two older ladies from Australia, Regina and Olga, sitting at the adjacent table. They were very chatty and we ran into them several times that evening.

We toured the entire ship and found all the important parts - restaurants, swimming pools, the gym and track. It is truly incredible what they can put on a ship to make your vacation the best ever.
