A Day in Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos is a lovely island with many beaches and where the cool water is several shades of deep blues and greens. It is simply beautiful!

Cool windmills are some of the most recognizable landmarks. They stand on a hill overlooking the area and are the first thing you spot when coming into the harbor. They were once used to mill wheat and were an important source of income. Today, they are no longer in use; just very cool Greek icons.

We saw the town mascot, Nicholas the Pelican (His predecessor, Petros, was an injured pelican nursed back to health by a fisherman. The townspeople became rather fond of him and he became quite the celebrity, wandering up and down the alleys, stopping to rest wherever he pleased. He lived for over 30 years. When he died in 1986 the whole town went into mourning). There have been a succession of Petros’s but for some reason the current guy is referred to as Nicholas.

An important topic of the day was to discuss what was for lunch? Greek gyros are delish. They are very similar to the Turkish kebabs and we love them! As we ate, we had a beautiful view of the bay with bobbing sailboats and a cool breeze gently blowing.
We had considered renting scooters and zipping around like we did when in Hawaii, but the madness and confusion of all the tiny cars and motorcycles made it seem a bit dangerous. Not for Larry, but definitely for me. The traffic really was insane, both pedestrians and miniature cars, with the combination of sightseers and natives. You really have to watch or you could be the next road kill.
The view of the sea from the island was beautiful and much more peaceful than the island. You can see our ship in the background. The boats moored in the bay are so colorful. I could sit here and watch all day.

The majority of natives living on Mykonos have to be cats. We have seen so many here and they just lazily lay there and watch you. There was one lady in particular that was feeding many (too many) cats on her front porch. I had visions of a creepy cat woman who could only relate to Felines!

Another indigenous creature populating Mykonos is the crazy pigeon. They have no fear! As we were waiting for our food for lunch, one started pecking at my toes. Ewwww! Gross!
Which city has more alleys; Venice, Dubrovnik, or Mykonos? Good question!
Wednesday, August 13 – A Day at Sea
Breakfast up on the Horizon Court Buffet
Hearing small children speaking a foreign language or with an English accent is so entertaining. Too bad we as Americans don’t have that charming accent.
Whenever we go to the buffet to eat it seriously sounds like what the Tower of Babel would have been like. There are so many different nationalities all in one place. Very cool!
The Gym - cool bikes you ride and pretend you are in a video game racing other players. Larry won!
We went up by the pool to read. Super windy but fun to be in the shade, by the pool, cruising across the Ionian Sea. We still keep pinching ourselves we to see if we are dreaming.
Larry went to the room and shortly after a cute older couple, Sam and Betsy, came by and took the chair Larry was using. We started chatting, exchanging information. Where do you live? How many kids? Etc. they are from LA and are Jewish. They know a bit about Mormons. They want to go on a tour with us tomorrow if we can line up an inexpensive trip. They kind of want to do a bit more than we do. It is hard to decide what to do. There are so many beautiful places to go see and great food to eat. I wish we had brought our money tree along. :)
